South Shore of Lake Superior

Elizabeth and I traveled to the south shore of Lake Superior near the Apostle Islands. The leaves, for the most part, had all fallen except near the lake. There, the leaves were still on the trees and were yet colorful.

I wanted to get an early start in looking for photo opportunities, but as you can tell from this picture, the sun had not began to give light. However, the street lighting was intriguing, especially with the light rainfall.

An hour later, the sun was giving some light though there was an overcast with a light rain and fog. The street lights were still on. You can see the Madeline Island Ferry docked and that the lake is calm.

This view towards the south shows Madeline Island in the background and that most of the boats had been removed from the water and put in storage for the winter. There were five boat still in the water and we watched one large boat being picked up from the lake and placed on land.

In the cold air, one large sea bird perched atop a street light where heat was being given off.

The sun rose higher in the sky and I walked out on the pier to take pictures. Here is one of the last boats to be taken out of the water in this harbor.

The wind picked up a bit and made the day chillier. This shows the waves on the cold waters of Lake Superior and the colorful landscape in the background.

In the afternoon I walked over to where many of the boats had been placed to wait out the winter.

Beautiful Autumn Colors

Liz and I got home from church on Sunday about 5:00 p.m. Although the sky was overcast and there was light rain from time to time, the autumn colors were immense. Thus, before having supper, I had to get outside to take a few photographs around the house.

Here is the firebush at the end of our driveway. It seems to get more intense each year.

Looking south down our street, is the maple tree on the property that used to belong to Bob Benson.

Looking in the other direction, north, down the street, one sees all the colors of the trees.

Across the street, looking towards the northwest, is another colorful tree.

The Changing Look

The look of Saint Cloud has been changing quite a lot and for you to see the new look, here are a few pictures of the change.

Crossroads Center on the west end of town has been remodeled. Here is the look of one of the entrances on the south side of the complex.

On the west side of Crossroads Center a very massive addition includes a large sporting goods store and a food court.

The west end of the downtown area has a library that just opened in September. It is located on the lot where Miller Pontiac once was.

When this picture was taken, the library had not yet opened. Books and other supplies were being moved in as the open house was in three days.

You probably recognize this building. While it's been part of the downtown for the last few years, its ownership keeps changing.

Do you recall where the Beauty College once was located? There is now an Italian restaurant in the completely remodeled building.
