Touring Through Vermont

We spent a couple of days touring through the state of Vermont. Beginning in the northwest corner of the state, we took a boat ride on Lake Champlain, then on to the birthplace of Joseph Smith Jr, to Stowe VT to visit the home of the von Trapp family, to the Ben and Jerry Ice Cream factory, and other places of interest.

In the foreground are some boats in the Burlington, VT, harbor of Lake Champlain.

We saw these hikers on the cliffs over looking Lake Champlain near Burlington.

The Trip Through Part of Quebec

Our trip to northeastern United States brought us through Canada along the shores of Lake Ontario which then brought us into Quebec, la belle province. We traveled along the Canadian side of Lake Erie to the Saint Lawrence Seaway all the way to Montreal where we turned south to Lake Champlain.

On a long car trip like this, bring a large cooler filled with water and other drinks. Also, have plenty of snacks.

Here we are traveling along Canadian Highway 401 about to enter into Quebec.

Montreal is actually an island. The hill in the background is a well known part of Montreal, at least by the people who live there.

This is the main road through Montreal.

Here is the bridge which leaves the southern boundary of the Montreal Island.

Lake Ontario

Liz and I traveled around Chicago into Michigan and spent the night in Flint, MI. The next day we went east into Canada, following the north shore of Lake Ontario, on the way to Montreal.

Here are Liz and I by Lake Ontario on the Canadian side.

We paused by a place called Thousand Island. Liz is digging through her purse trying to find her cell phone.

At the Thousand Island stop, one can take a boat trip among the islands.

This is the entrance to the Thousand Island rest stop.

Liz enjoyed spending some time shopping at the gift shop at our stop.

Back In the United States

After leaving Montreal, Quebec, Canada, we headed south for the United States and Vermont. We arrived in a border town in New York on the west side of Lake Champlain, just a very short distance from Vermont.

This is the northwest edge of Lake Champlain, the border between Vermont and New York.

We crossed over to Vermont and traveled a few miles to a bed-and-breakfast on an island in Lake Champlain. Here is the happy couple just outside their B&B, in front of the lake.

The next morning we were presented with this view of Lake Champlain, from our B&B room.

About fifty miles south we took a boat tour on Lake Champlain where I photographed a sailboat.

On the boat tour, we saw this view of Burlington, VT. The University of Vermont is located there.
